Giulia Orsi is a costume designer adept in the techniques of costume design, theatrical dressmaking and historical cuts and patterns. On The Trail she will be sharing her work by sewing new pieces and chatting to visitors about her production process. She has designed collections for fashion shows and has worked on theatre productions in Italy as a designer, maker and dresser.
Giulia graduated from the Accademia Italiana di Arte, Moda e Design of Rome in 2012, and earned a B.A. Hons degree in costume design from the University of Wales – Prifysgol Cymru.
It was at Tirelli Costumi S.P.A. (Rome) where she learned the techniques of fabric decoration, embroidery, fabric ageing and dyeing. As an intern Giulia collaborated with the Sicilian theatres Fondazione Teatro Massimo of Palermo, and Fondazione Teatro “Luigi Pirandello” of Agrigento. In 2014 Giulia produced costumes for the 2014 “O-X-A”, a single-act opera which was part of the 58° Festival Internazione di Musica Contemporanea at the Biennale of Venice.
She was a costume and fashion designer for modern clothing and ballgowns as part of the Historical Dance at Atelier Riflessi di Sicilia SCarl Palermo, before moving to Malta in 2016. Since then she has worked with both the Valletta Film Festival 2016, and on a historical documentary, “Warrior Women – Gladiatrix.”
